Niles, MI City Branding
This project encompasses a proposal for creating a new visual identity for the city of Niles, Michigan. Niles is known as the city of four flags because four nations once held Fort St. Joseph. The current city logo is very busy and doesn’t hold well at a smaller scale. The logo has four flags of the different nations with a shield in the center that says “Niles Michigan City of Four Flags”. When starting this city branding project, I traveled to Niles, explored and took pictures. I wanted to find a landmark or symbol that clearly represented this city. I narrowed my selection to the train station and a large bridge as you enter downtown. After many revisions I settled on the bridge. I wanted to create a successful logo that held well at a big and small scale, but also simple and clean. From there I also designed the way finding system.
